Route 66 Association of Missouri
Route 66 Association of Missouri originated from the efforts of dedicated volunteers who, in the fall of 1989, realized old 66 deserved recognition and preservation. The Association is a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit Missouri corporation, started on January 13, 1990. Since that time it has encouraged and assisted in the placement of "Historic Route 66" markers along the major alignments of the road, with an emphasis on the "classic" Route 66 which had its heyday from the mid-1930s to the mid-1950s. Today U.S. 66 has been officially decommissioned, and replaced in Missouri, for the most part, by Interstate 44.
